2017 URBAN EMPATHIES: The semiotic reading of space and the construction of urban meaning

2012 INTANGIBLE. Public Space and urban event. Ed. Universidad de La Salle ISBN  978-958-8572-40-6

By inhabiting, we build the invisible dimensions of our reality. Like someone who reads, the event interprets the space, stimulating the imagination of its inhabitants. Space and event merge to generate places, mutual image and story; With time and persistence, urban myths, physical and symbolic structures emerge from this relationship.  What  the poem, contain a very high communicative quality. It is when we recognize that  some of our events are heritage of the city because the myth releases the poetics contained in the vitality of the urban.

INTANGIBLE establishes that the reality of the urban event has three dimensions: the descriptive, the related and the meditated. These three approaches allow us to understand the multiple nature of the urban event. In the first case, the descriptive refers to the physical quality of the forms of social appropriation of urban space or as it is named in the book "urban event",  In the second case, what is related refers to its symbolic quality and how the urban event constructs  image and  place for the urban. And in the third case it is established  how with this symbolic and physical structure that establishes  the urban event in communion with space, generates  urban ritualities  and his  mythical dimension.

These three approaches make up PART ONE  of INTANGIBLE in three chapters of theoretical structuring.

The second part of INTANGIBLE studies two cases in the city of Bogotá: Veinte de Julio and Terraza Pasteur. Each of the structured concepts in the first part  It is applied in the observation of the two cases in the city of Bogotá. In this way we can build  a deep knowledge of the quality of these forms of appropriation of urban space and establishes  its ritual and mythical value.

INTANGIBLE  is a proposal for the study of the forms of social appropriation of the urban space or urban event, which the individual and collective inhabitant builds with their customs of use of it, allowing us to diagnose and assess in a more objective way its cultural and patrimonial wealth. This knowledge and  Valuation is essential when establishing urban development plans, tourism, education, etc., in urban regions containing urban heritage rituals for the city.
